Continuity IRA mount bomb attack

Dissident republicans placed a bomb in a hijacked vehicle and told its driver to park it outside a PSNI station on Tuesday.

The explosive was placed in the back seat of the takeaway delivery driver’s car at about 10pm.

He was told to park the vehicle outside Lurgan Police Station, but left it short of the station.

There were clashes later in the republican Kilwilkie estate in the town after provokation by riot police. One man was arrested.

It was also reported that leaflets were passed to members of the media claiming that the breakaway Continuity IRA were now “in control” of the hardline Kilwilkie estate.

Local Sinn Féin assembly member John O’Dowd said he was making an official complaint to the Police Ombudsman over the police handling of the matter.
