New Sinn Féin cumann in Louth

A new Sinn Féin cumann in Louth to cover the Omeath, Carlingford, Greenore, Cooley and Ravensdale area was established on Thursday 7 November.

At the meeting the cumann's officials were elected and discussions then took place on a range of issues, including the plight of the farmers still awaiting a fair settlement after losses during the Foot and Mouth crisis; the lack of employment opportunities within the area; the limited development of tourism in North Louth; and the unacceptable downgrading of Louth Hospital in Dundalk.

Other issues discussed included policing in the North and the hypocrisy that sees unionist politicians consorting with members of the UDA in South Africa while refusing to work with elected Sinn Féin politicians.

Member of the cumann and local TD, Arthur Morgan, undertook to raise these issues in the Dáil, on the British-Irish Council, with the appropriate Ministers of State in Dublin and Belfast and at meetings of Louth County Council.
