Joe Cahill sells out in Monaghan

Lifelong republican Joe Cahill was in Monaghan on Saturday last to sign copies of his recently published biography: Joe Cahill, A Life in the IRA, written by Belfast journalist Brendan Anderson.

The event's success was such that all copies of the book were sold out while people were still queueing along Dublin Street to get into the Sinn Féin siopa. Those disappointed were given an assurance by Joe and Brendan Anderson, who surprised those gathered by also attending, that more signed books would make their way to Monaghan within the next week.

The book is unique in that senior IRA activists rarely, if ever, speak about their lives or their organisation, but now, for the first time, Joe Cahill, a lifelong and top-ranking member of the IRA, has recounted the story of his amazing life.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD was among the first to welcome Joe and his wife Annie back to Monaghan for the historic occasion. He paid tribute to Joe, saying: "His strength, his commitment and the energy that has been evident throughout his 82 years are an inspiration to us all."

Joe Cahill, A Life in the IRA is published by The O'Brien Press at Û25 [hardback] and is available in the Sinn Féin siopa, Dublin Street, Monaghan, and from all republican outlets.
