Nine POWs released
Nine republican prisoners were released on Tuesday night from
Portlaoise Prison. They were Anthony Heaney, Patrick Kavanagh,
Noel Magee, Patrick McCartney, Patrick Morgan, Paul Murray, Chris
O'Donnell, Bernard O'Hagan and Hugh Wilkinson.
Afetr their release, Bernard O'Hagan, in a statement, said the
prisoners were ``obviously delighted for their families''. He said,
``It should be noted that while today's releases are to be
welcomed as a positive step, still hundreds of prisoners remained
incarcerated.'' He urged the governments to address the issue
genuinely and speedily.
The prisoners also extended their ``total support to our
leadership'' and commended ``Sinn Féin and their negotiating team,
particularly for their massive workload over the last number of
weeks.''
