Seriously ill after loyalist attack
By Mick Naughton.
As 12 year old nationalist child David Goodall lies seriously ill
in the Royal Victoria Hospital after being attacked by a loyalist
mob on the Crumlin Road his family have reported that a
neurosurgeon has been brought in to treat him.
David was left with a fractured skull after being struck on the
head by a brick. A 50 strong loyalist gang came out of Cambrai
Street off Crumlin Road on Monday 6 April and attacked the
district with bricks and missiles gathered from the old Ewarts
Mill which is presently being demolished.
Local residents reported seeing what they described as ``grown
men'' hurling missiles at schoolchildren who were leaving a nearby
youth club. Eventually the loyalists were driven off but concern
has arisen that this type of loyalist attack from a notorious
flashpoint could be repeated. Residents are now calling for the
demolition site to be properly secured.
aunt of the injured boy whose husband, Martin Murphy, died
recently after suffering horrific injuries when he was injured on
the Oldpark Road by the British army during the Drumcree
disturbances last July, said the latest attack brought back
terrible memories of hospital visits.
Teresa Murphy said, ``we have been trying to get on with our lives
but David's injuries and the viciousness and sectarianism
displayed by these loyalists has brought it all back.''
