Tony McCaul

The tragic death occurred last month in Newry of Tony ``Snowball'' McCaul. Tony was a dedicated republican who was committed to the present phase of the struggle. He met his untimely death as the result of a motorcycle accident on the Warrenpoint Road near his home. A friend with him was also seriously injured.

Tony's family and his friends in the Republican Movement in Newry were shocked and saddened when they heard of his sudden and accidental death.

Aged 26, he was a member of the John Mitchel Newry Martyrs Cumann. He was always willing to play his part in all cumann activities with complete disregard of the constant RUC and British army harassment which he and his comrades suffered daily. He was a dedicated activist who formed the backbone of a cumann which has grown in membership and activity over the last number of years.

Tony was also a founder member of the ``Laochra na hEireann'' Flute Band in Newry, a role he enjoyed immensely and he took part in any commemoration or band parade in which his band participated.

The Republican Movement in Newry deeply regrets his sudden death and offers sincerest condolences to his family.
