An extraordinary surge of interest in Gaelic games was laid bare this week as tens of thousands of supporters packed MacHale Park in Castlebar to welcome home Mayo’s All-Ireland champions to the west, while in the north the long-promised redevelopment of Casement Park faced another humiliating setback with plans expected to be significantly scaled back.
