The daughter of Charlie Armstrong, one of the conflict’s so-called ‘Disappeared’, has thanked those who provided the information that helped locate her father’s remains.

A requiem mass was held for Mr Armstrong at St Patrick’s in Crossmaglen last week.

The father of five was abducted and killed as he made his way to mass in south Armagh in 1981.

In July 2009, forensic experts searching for his remains were handed a map which was thought could provide vital clues.

The fresh information was sent anonymously and indicated a previously unsearched area in Co Monaghan. Digs were carried out and human remains were found a year later.

On Wednesday, the family received confirmation following DNA tests that the remains discovered at the site were Mr Armstrong’s.

His death remains a mystery, and no group has ever claimed responsiblilty for the death.
