New website on Gaeltacht Arts

"Is sampla iontach www.ealain.ie ar an tslí a thig linn cabhair agus féinmhuinín a thabhairt dár gcuid ealaíontóirí agus táim cinnte, chomh maith, go mbeidh rachairt ar 'An Dánlann' agus go mbeidh daoine ó Tokyo go San Franciso ag ceannach na dtairgí."

Seo mar a labhair Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, Cathaoirleach Údarás na Gaeltachta faoi shuíomh nua idirlín atá seolta ag Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teoranta.

"This website is an excellent example of how we can give support to and show confidence in our artists," he said. "I am certain that the online gallery will attract interest from places as far away as Toyko and San Francisco and that the artists' works will be in great demand."

Apart from the gallery, which is currently showing An Domhan Fothoinn by Kate Bukley, the site has up to date information about arts events and projects happening in the Gaeltacht, from Dingle down south to Carna in Conamara and as far north as Gaoth Dobhair in North West Donegal.

Of particular interest to school teachers and those involved in community groups will be the Arts Directory, which lists details of over 80 artists and 150 arts organisations. The majority of those artists listed, and they include dancers, visual artists, writers and dramatists are willing and able to run workshops through the medium of Irish.

(For artists or arts organisations out there whose details are not in the directory, there is an online application form.)

Ever wondered what kind of arts projects get what kind of money? Well this site also lists all grants allocated to projects over the last two years and it certainly makes interesting reading.

The site has been praised by artists and arts organisations alike, who have remarked on its attractive design, ease and speed of use, and the nice pictures!
