New SF cumann in Forkhill

On Friday 2 May, a new Sinn Féin cumann was launched at a function in Forkhill, named after local Volunteer Gerry McKiernan.

The proceedings were chaired by Michael McCoy, who thanked the McKiernan family for attending on the night. He explained that the cumann has undertaken a plan of work in conjunction with Assembly members and local councillors to improve the area.

Elected representatives present were Assembly member for Newry and Armagh, Conor Murphy, TD for Louth, Arthur Morgan, and local councillors Elena Martin and Packie McDonald. Also present on the night was well known republican Brian Keenan.

Conor Murphy, the main speaker on the night, gave the audience an update on the current situation in the peace process. He presented an appreciation on behalf of the new cumann to Gerry McKiernan's father and said this was a very historic time in South Armagh, as this was the first Sinn Féin cumann to be set up in Forkhill.

The Gerry McKiernan Cumann would like to thank all those who attended this inaugural function and who helped to make the night such a success.
