Derry position clarified

At Tuesday night's meeting of Derry City Council, Sinn Féin Councillor Barney O'Hagan proposed a motion that all statutory agencies, government bodies and media outlets respect the wishes of the vast majority of the people of Derry and their elected representatives and use the name Derry.

In passing the motion, the Council accepted that in keeping with the original motion recognising the sensitivities that exist surrounding the name, if people wish to correspond with the Council using a name other than Derry, that should be respected.
