[An Phoblacht]

He's my brother

The eleventh Frank Cahill memorial lecture, an essential part of West Belfast's Féile an Phobail, will this year be presented by Sinn Féin Vice President Joe Cahill.

Joe, Frank's brother, will present a lecture titled 'The life and times of a West Belfast republican' in the Conway Mill at 7pm on Monday 4 August.

Joe, who has dedicated his life to the pursuit of freedom for the Irish people will talk of that sacrifice, mirrored in the work his brothers Frank and Tom carried out in the nationalist community of Belfast.

Both Frank and Tom pursued the aims of economic development for their community as a way of empowering nationalists living in a state that practised both the economic and political disenfranchisement of its nationalist citizens.

Speaking to An Phoblacht, Úna Gillespie, director of the West Belfast Economic Forum said "it is a great honour for us that Joe was so eager to do the lecture.

"He is a man of the people, as was Frank, and it will be useful to hear a lecture that addresses the political and personal growth of Joe, Frank and Tom Cahill, men who gave so much in their lives to the development of their communities."
