Jackie Griffith Commemorative weekend

The annual Jackie Griffith commemorative weekend began this year with a public meeting in the Holiday Inn on Pearse Street in Dublin.

The broad heading of A United Ireland by 2016 drew a large attendance from the area and also further afield. The meeting was chaired by local representative Daithí Doolan, while the main speakers were Mitchel McLaughlin and Martina Anderson.

Former Belfast Lord Mayor Alex Maskey addressed the Volunteer Jackie Griffith Commemoration march on Saturday 5 July at the spot where Jackie Griffith was shot dead 60 years ago by the Special Branch.

This very successful weekend ended with the annual Commemorative soccer match in Ringsend Park.

Pictured at the commemoration are Daithi Doolan and Alex Maskey with members of Jackie Griffith's family, who travelled from Manchester to take part in the weekend's events.
