The death occured suddenly of Terry Cunningham, The Hill, Clogherhead, Co Louth, aged 51 years. A native of County Cavan, Terry came to Louth to work in the bar trade many years ago. He was married to Karina Kirwan, a member of a well known Clogherhead family, for 25 years. Terry was a very popular and respected member of the community.

Terry was secretary of the Tim Flannagan Sinn Féin cumann in Clogherhead. Danny Churchill, chairperson of the cumann, paid the following tribute to his friend:

"As a founder member of the cumann and member of the Officer Board, Terry was a tireless worker in the cause of Irish freedom. He set a fine example, and was an inspiration for fellow activists of all ages.

"Terry was someone who always stood out from the crowd. He promoted the unification of our country and our people at every opportunity, and wore the badge of his republicanism with great pride.

"On behalf of the entire republican family in County Louth, we offer our sincerest sympathy to his dear wife Karina, his family circle and his many friends."

I measc laochra na nGael go raibh sé.
