Glenfada Park can be redeveloped
Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry MacLochlainn reports that obstacles to the completion of the redevelopment of Glenfada Park have been lifted by the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, MacLochlainn said
"Mary Nelis and I recently met residents of Glenfada Park to discuss anti-community activity and we decided to seek action at various levels including a clean up and development of the area.
"We then met representatives from the DoE and the Housing Executive and work was planned to deal with residents' concerns. Much of this has now been done. However there was a problem with the derelict flats between the two sections of the Park. This area had been passed over during the recent refurbishment because the Bloody Sunday Inquiry required its preservation due to its importance to the investigation.
"I wrote to the Bloody Sunday Inquiry and have received a reply from John Tate, Solicitor to the Inquiry, who has confirmed that their work has now been completed and the area can be developed without constraint.
"I have contacted the Housing Executive to arrange for the works to be completed as soon as possible. I urge the Executive to consult with the residents as to their requirements."
