Dublin Sinn Féin forges ahead

Preparing for government was the message being sent out at a Dublin Sinn Féin strategy meeting last Saturday. Delegates from across the city and county laid out Dublin's mission statement and the strategic objectives that they hope will ensure greater success for Sinn Féin in the capital in the coming years.

The success of the recent general elections was analysed and it was generally felt that having five TDs in Leinster House and six councillors on Dublin local authorities was forcing the opposition to work harder.

It was acknowledged by most present that Sinn Féin in Dublin needs to continue campaigning on housing and health, two areas that seriously affect the people of the county. Another area of concern is the increasing price of living, and a proposal was made to begin campaigning on this issue.

There was a general consensus that a clear focus should remain on securing a 32-county republic, and that members will need to make sure that they don't get bogged down with local issues.
