Sinn Féin cumann renamed
Mid-Louth Sinn Féin held a hugely successful
function in the Traveller's Rest, Hunterstown, Ardee on Friday
night, 6 September at which the cumann was renamed the
O'Carroll/Tierney cumann, in honour of IRA Volunteers Sean
O'Carroll and Patrick Tierney, killed by Crown forces in Ardee on
30 November 1920.
Relatives of both patriots attended the
function, and a magnificent new banner was unfurled in honour of
the two.
Volunteer Sean O'Carroll was a native of Belfast. Eamonn
O'Carroll from Belfast thanked mid-Louth Sinn Féin for
inviting the family to the function. It was great to know that
after 82 years, Sean and Patrick were not forgotten, he said.
Eamonn wished Sinn Féin all success and best wishes for
the future, both in mid-Louth and throughout Ireland.
Sinn Féin Vice President Joe Cahill then spoke of his
confidence for the future. Joe stated that he had been born in
1920 in a united Ireland, albeit under British rule. "I am
convinced I will die in a united Ireland, this time free of
British rule," he said. Joe finished by urging everyone present
to play their part in the struggle for freedom, peace and
justice.
