Dumping despoils beauty spot

Sinn Féin members in Clogherhead are becoming increasing anxious about the illegal dumping problem at Baltray, Co Louth. What started out as a beautiful scenic spot now is more akin to a landfill dump, along with the standard domestic items such as sofas, fridges, mattresses and household rubbish, it is now also home to burnt out cars.

This part of the coast, at the mouth of the river Boyne, is frequented by tourists, walkers and joggers alike. The coastal walk is one of the last free amenities left for local residents to avail of in this region. There is also a serious Health and Safety issue surrounding these abandoned cars.

Here, pictured at Baltray, are Sinn Féin local activists Mairead Harvey, Ruth Churchill and Tom Cunningham.

The problem of burnt out cars and illegal dumping is an increasing problem throughout Louth. Sinn Féin is calling on the relevant authorities to do all in their power to put an end to this dumping and restore this natural amenity to its former glory.
