Shannon warplane protest
Hundreds of protesters from all over Ireland converged on Shannon Airport on Saturday 12 October to protest at the use of the airport as a refuelling stop for US warplanes.
After blocking the road at the main entrance to the airport for two hours, and observing a minute's silence for the victims of American bombs, demonstrators left the outside of the terminal building. A peaceful mass trespass involving over a hundred protesters then took place. Ten participants in the mass trespass action were arrested.
Cork Peace Alliance spokesperson Owen Butler said: "We are delighted with the way today's protest unfolded. This was a successful non-violent action highlighting the use of Shannon Airport by US warplanes. We will continue our actions until this unconstitutional breach of Irish neutrality stops."
