Weston Park proposals fall short - Adams
Sinn Féin presented a submission on policing in the Six Counties to the British government on Monday, 30 September. Party President Gerry Adams, speaking at Stormont afterwards, said "in the course of this week we will be publishing our submission. If there is a will, it is possible that the Review of Policing legislation could herald the new beginning to Policing as set out in the Good Friday Agreement.
"It is my position that this could be better achieved by the restoration of the consensus around Policing that once underpinned the Sinn Féin/SDLP/Irish government approach.
"I welcome John Reid's assertion today that he is going to proceed with legislative amendments despite the UUP's threat to come off the Policing Board.
"Dr Reid, however, knows that the Weston Park proposals fall short of what is required. In a sentence that is for a politicised and accountable civic policing service."
