Wear an Easter Lily

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams and party Honorary vice-President Joe Cahill launched this year's Easter Lily campaign in the party offices in Stormont on Thursday 7 March.

Accompanying the pair were two of the party's Dublin candidates in the forthcoming general election Mary Lou McDonald and Nicky Kehoe.

At the launch of the campaign Cahill said, "it is my view that more people than ever throughout Ireland will be wearing an Easter Lily this year".

Gerry Adams said that Easter "is a time for remembering friends and comrades who have given their lives and freedom in pursuit of our republican ideals and goals. It is time for reflecting on those ideals.

"We recall the words of the 1916 Proclamation - an historic document - one of the most progressive documents ever written. It spells out the demand for social and economic justice and democracy, of cherishing all the children of the nation, irrespective of colour, religion, gender, ability or race equally.

"Easter is also a time of renewal, when we as Irish republicans rededicate ourselves to the legitimate and achievable goals of independence and unity for the people of this island."
