Community workers criticise RUC/PSNI over 'scrappers'
The RUC/PSNI have threatened to prosecute vehicle recovery firms for theft if they pick up 'scrappers', cars abandoned on the streets of West Belfast by hoods.
In recent years, hoods and joyriders have been buying cheap, clapped out cars and driving them without tax and insurance. When they are finished with these cars, the hoods are abandoning or burning them at the side of the road.
Until recently, when community activists contacted these vehicle recovery firms, they would take the cars away. Now, however, the RUC/PSNI have warned the recovery firms they will be prosecuted for theft if they lift these cars.
