New Lodge massacre to be remembered

A commemoration to remember The New Lodge Six will be held at the memorial garden in Donore Court, off the New Lodge Road in Belfast next Monday, 4 February, at 7.30pm - the 29th anniversary of their deaths.

IRA Volunteers James McCann and James Sloan were shot dead by loyalists as they stood outside Lynch's Bar on the New Lodge Road while Volunteer Tony Campbell and civilians John Loughran, Brendan Maguire and Ambrose Hardy were killed when British Army snipers opened fire from the top of Artillery Flats.

Although inquests into the deaths of all six men found none were armed or firing at the Crown forces when killed, the British Army claim to this day that they only killed "gunmen" on the night.

Sinn FŽin Assembly member for North Belfast, Gerry Kelly, will be the main speaker, while a delegation from Noraid will also attend.
