Elections should be held at weekend

Sinn FŽin Councillor and candidate for Dublin South West, Se‡n Crowe, has called on the Dublin government to hold the general election at a weekend to ensure that the greatest number possible will be given an opportunity to vote.

"Sinn FŽin supports the call of the National Youth Council and other organisations for the general election to be held at the weekend," said Crowe. "Young people, particularly those working or studying away from home, find it difficult to return to vote in a mid-week election.

"It is vital that the government creates every opportunity to maximise the turnout for the general election. It is obvious that a Saturday election would suit the highest number of voters. There is no excuse for the government not to facilitate this."
