Hunger striker honoured in Ballyconnell
A commemorative mass marking the 21st anniversary of hunger striker Kieran Doherty, TD Cavan/Monaghan, was celebrated in Ballyconnell at 11am on Sunday 4 August, followed by a wreathlaying ceremony at the newly elected memorial in his honour.
Present were Kieran's parents, Alfie and Margaret Doherty, and other family members, and the guest speaker was Sinn Féin Councillor Pauline Tully.
A large crowd attended,wreaths were laid and the ceremony concluded with the playing of the national anthem by a lone piper.
