Michael Haughey

The tragic death of Michael Haughey has caused great shock and has evoked great sadness in the Carrickmore area of Tyrone.

Michael was a valued republican throughout his adult life. The Haughey family is respected throughout County Tyrone and Michael himself had a large circle of friends.

Aged 26, Michael had a very pleasant, friendly personality and an easygoing manner which made him the centre of his wide social circle.

The huge crowd that attended Michael's funeral at St Colmcille's Chapel, Carrickmore, on Wednesday evening, 24 July, was testimony to Michael's popularity.

Wreaths were laid at Michael's graveside on behalf of the Republican Movement and local Sinn Féin Assembly member, Barry McElduff, paid tribute to Michael. He extended the sympathy of the entire community to the Haughey family.

Michael is survived by his father Michael, mother Anne, sisters Brenda and Sinead, and brothers Shane, Karl and Don.
