Man suicidal over informer recruitment attempts
Sinn Féin Councillor Jarlath McNulty says that
attempts to pressurise a middle aged Strabane man to go wear a
"wire tap" and frequent certain selected bars in Strabane to
listen to the conversations of local people have left the man,
who suffers from a chronic drink problem, in a suicidal
state.
Speaking about the affair Cllr Mc Nulty said: "The RUC/PSNI definitely stooped to a new low with this recruitment attempt. The man, who is in his 50s, has a severe problem with alcohol dependancy and is also receiving psychiatric treatment.
"He approached Sinn Féin in a highly distressed state saying that he could no longer continue living."
