Bloody Sunday

exhibition by contemporary Irish artists who have previously made work which has referenced the event of Bloody Sunday.

Wednesday 24 January

Freedom's Wall

Photographic exhibition charting the evolution of Free Derry Wall from January 1969 to the present. Organized by the Bloody Sunday Trust & Rossville Historical Society.

Beyond Borders - The Search for Truth

Film screenings of Even Memories (1997), Rodrigo Vazquez, (Argentina) and Portrait of a Dictatorship, (1999) Patricio Henriquez, (Chile). This event will be followed by a discussion concerning the search for truth in Latin America, led by Director Rodrigo Vazquez, recently returned from filming the Pinochet hearings.

Martin McGuinness, MP and Assembly member, became involved with the Civil Rights movement in 1968 as an 18-year-old, going on to play a leading role in republican politics over the past three decades. Currently the Sinn Féin Minister for Education, he has played a pivotal role in the Irish Peace Process

Whose Police Service?

A day long series of talks, workshops and discussions examining the changes that have occurred concerning policing and the nationalist community's response to these changes.

11.30 am - 12.30 pm Presentation

Professor Brendan O'Leary, London School of Economics, will examine the demands for changes in policing in the north and the response to these contained in the Mandelson Police Act 2000 & the implementation plan.

1.30 pm - 2.30 pm. Workshops

Examining the proposed changes and their ability to create a new and equitable police service, and how the nationalist community should respond.

2.45 pm - 4.00 pm Face to Face

opportunity for the workshop participants to exchange views, and hear the opinions of Martin Mansergh, special advisor to the Taoiseach, Fr. Timothy Bartlett, St. Marys Teacher Training College, Alex Attwood, SDLP spokesperson on policing, Gerry Kelly, Sinn Féin spokesperson on policing.

A panel discussion on the making of a drama documentary on Bloody Sunday. Panel: Writer Jimmy McGovern, Producers from Gaslight Productions (Derry) & Box TV (London). Chair: Margo Harkin, film maker.

Lessons of the Irish Hunger Strikes

A panel discussion examining the political, historical and personal impact of the Hunger Strikes of 1980/'81. Chair: Dodie McGuinness, H-Block/Armagh activist. Panel: Tony Doherty, former prisoner (1981-85) and a founder of the BSJC, Jim Gibney, National H-Block/Armagh Committee, Laurence McKeown, member of 1981 Hunger Strike, Martina Anderson, former prisoner.
