Williams' crucifix uncovered

The Crucifix carried by IRA Volunteer Tom Williams to his death has been handed over to the West Belfast-based Roddy McCorley Society.

As he was led to his execution in September 1942, Williams carried the six-inch metal cross, which he then gave to prison warden Con Murphy, whose family have kept it ever since.

Now the Murphy family have handed the cross over to the Roddy McCorley Society to be displayed in the Tom Williams room in their Glen Road clubrooms.

Davy McGivern, chairperson of the McCorley Society, said: ``We are delighted to have Tom's cross. We are very happy that the Murphy family decided to donate it to us.''
