Molloy denounces secret RUC meeting

Sinn Féin's Francie Molloy has denounced a secret meeting held between an Independent nationalist councillor, the Coalisland Development Association (CDA) and the RUC in the County Tyrone town last week.

According to Molloy, Independent councillor Jim Canning and the CDA held a meeting with the RUC at the CDA offices to discuss the establishment of a 'police' liaison committee.

Also on the agenda was the installation of a CCTV system to monitor the town.

``The RUC are not acceptable and any attempt to rehabilitate the RUC will not be tolerated by the people of Coalisland,'' said Molloy. ``Councillor Canning and the CDA do not have a mandate from people of Coalisland for meetings such as the one they held.''

Molloy challenged Canning and the CDA to call on the RUC ``to remove its 'Big Brother' cameras that are installed all around the barracks and which are used to intrude on the everyday lives of townspeople''.
