Woman awarded damages against RUC
A West Belfast woman was awarded £5,000 damages against an RUC raiding party after they broke her door down in 1997.
Jean Fox told An Phoblacht at the time that the RUC sledgehammered their way into her home without warning and she thought at the time that it was a loyalist hit squad as her home is only yards from the notorious Black's road estate.
Fox's son Thomas was in the H Blocks at the time.
Before the case was initially heard last Friday, 15 September, the RUC argued that they continuously knocked on the door of Fox's Doon Road home and only broke in when they got no answer.
However on Monday, the RUC offered the West Belfast woman £5,000 in an out of court settlement, which she accepted. It turned out that the RUC broke into the house without a warrant.
