Sneaky RUC spies

Lisburn Sinn Féin councillor Michael Ferguson has described as ``sinister and worrying'' an RUC undercover operation near the Twinbrook/Poleglass Sinn Féin advice centre.

At about 1pm on Tuesday, 10 October, local people spotted a white Transit van parked suspiciously on the Stewartstown Road near the Sinn Féin office. The people approached the van and discovered that a number of RUC personnel were in the back of the vehicle with cameras and that they appeared to be filming and photographing the centre.

According to a local man who spoke to An Phoblacht the RUC drove off when the local people went to the van.

``Such sinister actions by the RUC are very worrying, particularly given that in the last number of months scores of nationalists have been informed that their details are in the hands of loyalists,'' said Ferguson.

Only last month, An Phoblacht reported that a local man had spotted two gunmen emerging from an alleyway, further along the Stewartstown Road, and making their way into the Twinbrook estate. This incident happened on 14 September at a spot about 200 yards from the Sinn Féin centre.
