Kilmichael Ambush on RTÉ

The 80th anniversary of one of the most decisive battles of the Tan War, the Kilmichael Ambush in West Cork, takes place on 28 November. The famous West Cork Flying Column, under the command of Tom Barry, wiped out a battalion of Auxiliaries as they travelled the road from Macroom to Dunmanway.

On Sunday (26 November), Sinn Féin Vice President Pat Doherty will deliver the oration at the annual commemoration, which takes place at 1pm at the ambush site.

Meanwhile, on RTÉ Radio 1 on Saturday night, Donnchadh Ó Dualaing's show from 10pm-11pm will be dedicated to the ambush. And on Tuesday, 28 November, the actual date of the anniversary, Léargas on RTÉ1 television at 7pm will also feature the Kilmichael Ambush, one of the turning points of the Tan War of 1918-'21.

Relate your Hunger Strike memories

A Chairde,

As you may be aware, Sinn Féin is planning a year-long list of events to commemorate the Hunger Strikes of 1980/1981. We would like to incorporate individuals' reflections on this period.

We are interested in gathering together people's accounts - whether it is from a relative, activist, prisoner, community worker, mother, sister, brother, friend, or whether you were not actively involved but feel you have a story to tell. Any account is valid, whether you were living in Ireland at the time or abroad.

We are asking for personal reflections of around 500 words, so that we can put them into an archive and display them on our Web site.

If you are interested yourself, or know of others who have a story to tell, please pass on these details.

We would be grateful if you could forward your piece to Máiría Cahill, Oifig ná Sé Chondae, 53 Falls Road, Belfast BT12 4PD, by 20 December 2000.

Go raibh maith agat.
