Coiste na n-Iarchimí launch

Brian Keenan

The launch of the 26-County headquarters of Coiste na nIarchimí will take place on Saturday 8 July at 4pm at the organisation's premises at 41 Lower Dominick Street, Dublin 1. Operating on a nationwide basis, the Coiste was established to co-ordinate the activities of groups working towards the real and meaningful reintegration of republican prisoners into the community.

The Coiste Mission Statement confirms our commitment to the social, economic and emotional well being of current and former republican prisoners. Co-ordinating the initiatives of this ex-prisoner body in an atmosphere of self-help, encouragement and mutual aid, we see the vital potential of the Coiste project.

Various republicans, including members of the ex-prisoner community, will attend, along with individuals from the media and academic worlds. The guest speaker will be former republican prisoner Brian Keenan.

In the context of Irish, and particularly republican prison history, this is clearly a very significant launch, in that it marks and celebrates a moment of powerful possibilities and new beginnings.
