Community worker in sinister incident
A West Belfast community worker is recovering from shock after three armed men forced their way into his home and threatened him. The incident took place at around 10.30pm on Monday night in the Beechmount area of West Belfast.
The man was at home with his family when the gunmen appeared. A gun was placed in the mouth of the resident before the three men made their escape in a white Toyota driven by a fourth member of the team.
During the incident the assailants had demanded, ``give us the weapons,'' to which the householder had replied, ``what weapons, there's nothing here.'' The gang, who appeared to be their forties, were in the house for about 15 minutes.
Commenting, local Sinn Féin Councillor Tom Hartley said he believed that sinister elements had been at work: ``I would call upon the British military and RUC undercover to come clean about any involvement in the targeting and harassment of nationalists in this area.''
