Fusco denied bail

Sinn Féin's Martin Ferris has said that republicans and nationalists will be disappointed and angry at the refusal of the Dublin High Court on Monday, 7 February, to grant Angelo Fusco bail.

Ferris, a councillor for Fusco's home town of Tralee, County Kerry, said: ``That the authorities are pursuing the extradition of Angelo Fusco on political charges contrary to the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement is bad enough. For the courts to deny him bail, keep him incarcerated and away from his family is baffling and totally frustrating for those of us striving to maintain confidence in the Good Friday Agreement.

``For the Irish government to involve itself in the extradition of any Irish citizen on political charges is completely at odds with the commitment to release all political prisoners which lies at the heart of the Good Friday Agreement. The government should immediately move to rescind the warrant against Angelo Fusco and all outstanding extradition warrants against those facing political charges.''
