Put criminal's money back in poor communities
Following a Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) report that it took £16m from criminals last year, Dublin Central Sinn Féin Councillor Nicky Kehoe has called for the confiscated criminal funds to be reinvested in disadvantaged communities.
``I welcome the report from the CAB that it stripped £16m from criminals last year,'' he said, ``but unfortunately this doesn't even scratch the surface of what evil drug pushers are making off the misery of Dublin's young people.''
``The money, and all future money collected by CAB, should be put directly into communities to tackle drug abuse, along with a much wider sphere of funding to cover education, youth services and employment.''
``The continued deterioration of some Dublin communities is not acceptable in what we are led to believe is the most vibrant economy in Europe,'' he continued. ``The government needs to make a real and genuine commitment to these communities that it is serious about tackling the real issues concerning them. They need to prove that they are not totally disinterested in these communities, as it currently appears they are.''
