Loyalist bomb scare
A bomb scare, more than likely the work of local loyalists,
delayed the start of the Easter commemoration in the Whitewell
Road area of North Belfast on Saturday 22 April.
Local
republicans were gathering when the crown forces moved in to seal
the area off.
Earlier in the year, local loyalist bands were prevented, by a
ruling of the Parades Commission, from parading along the Antrim
Road and down through the flashpoint Whitewell area.
Sinn Féin's Gerry Kelly, who addressed the
commemoration, accused loyalists of ``a continuing campaign of
harassment and intimidation against nationalists in the area''.
