We Want a Referendum
Marchers calling for a referendum on whether Ireland should join NATO's sister organisation, the Partnership for Peace, braved a downpour in O'Connell Street last Saturday, 25 September. The march was organised by AfrI (Action from Ireland). According to AfrI's director, Joe Murray, there is growing discontent in Fianna Fáil ranks over Bertie Ahern's repudiation of his pre-election commitment to hold a referendum before joining PfP. A West Dublin Cumann passed a motion against membership. The Fianna Fáil Foreign Policy Advisory group has recommended a referendum be held.
