INOU calls for job guarantee

``Charlie McCreevy has the chance to destroy or promote social partnership''. This is the opinion of Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) General Secretary Mike Allen. He was speaking at the launch of the INOU Budget Submission 2000

The INOU's goal is to achieve and maintain full employment. This is defined as a society ``in which every adult who wishes to can find employment with decent conditions, within a reasonable time''.

The INOU believes that the challenge facing the Dublin Government is to make full employment in Ireland a reality. They have also outlined a series of recommendations, including:

  • £750 million in tax cuts targeted at the low paid;

  • Moving the low paid out of the tax net

  • Increasing social welfare to 50% of average incomes

  • Housing benefit for the private sector

  • A new Parents Childcare Payment
