Ex-Prisoners seminar in Monaghan

A special seminar for former political prisoners was held in Monaghan town last week. Former republican prisoners from throughout the country gathered to address the topic ``Making sense of economic development''.

The conference was opened by Sinn Féin Councillor Owen Smyth, Chairperson of Monaghan Urban District Council. He welcomed the participants on behalf of the people of Monaghan. ``As a former political prisoner myself and as chairperson of the local authority I am very proud to welcome you to our town'' said Councillor Smyth. The Council chairperson complimented the various committees of ex-prisoners which have been formed in centres around Ireland, mentioning in particular the work of the FÝilte group in Clones.

Speakers at the conference included representatives from the Monaghan County Enterprise Board, the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment, and the Northern Ireland Co-Operative Development Agency.
