IRA rep meets De Chastelain
In a statement released at 12 noon on Sunday, 5 December, the IRA said
that a meeting was held between an IRA representative and General John
De Chastelain.
The IRA statement said:
``The IRA leadership confirm that a meeting between an appointed
representative has taken place.
``In line with our commitment of 17 November to appoint a
representative to enter into discussions with John De Chastelain and
the IICD it is anticipated that further discussions will take place''.
The statement was broadly welcomed. The Sinn Féin President Gerry
Adams, said that he ``hoped the matter would now be dealt with
separately from politics''.
