Sunday World story slated
The man injured in a loyalist bomb attack in South Down last Tuesday,
has lambasted a story in the Sunday World which said the grenade may
have been in Francie Trainor's scrapyard for the past ten years.
According to Sinn Fein Assembly member for South Down Mick Murphy,
the report claiming the grenade had been brought into Ireland as part
of a huge arms consignment by the `Official IRA' and brought North in
broken down CIE buses was untrue.
Most of the weapons, according to the Sunday World, were taken off
the buses in Dundalk, but some arms were brought into the Six
Counties to the scrapyard, before being removed.
d while reporter John Keane clearly stated that the owners of the
yard knew nothing about the haul, Murphy has told An Phoblacht that
the report is erroneous and will give comfort to loyalists who enjoy
the ``slightest justification'' for attacking Catholics.
Added Murphy: ``The facts are that Mr. Trainor was in his yard, left
for a time and on his return spotted metal that had not been in the
yard before. This made him suspicious and it was when he kicked the
metal that the device went off. Mr Trainor is convinced the bomb was
left in the time he was out of his yard'', concluded the Sinn Féin
representative.
