Ulster Tongues
The Linen Hall Library in Belfast is hosting a series of cultural
events in October and November celebrating the linguistic and
cultural diversity of the north.
`Ulster Tongues' will be launched in the library on Wednesday, 7
October with Donal O Riagain from the European Bureau of Lesser
Used Languages, speaking on minority languages in a European
context with particular reference to the Six Counties.
On Wednesday 14 October Dr Philip Robinson from the Ulster Folk
and Transport Museum will give a talk on the current status of
Ulster Scots.
On Wednesday 21 October Padhraic O'Ciardha from Teilifis na
Gaeilge will speak on aspects of the Irish language.
Other events will include a night of music and storytelling, and
a discussion of the literary heritage of the last two centuries.
A selection of Ulster Scots and Irish language material from the
library's holdings will be exhibited throughout the duration of
the programme.
All events take place at 6.00pm in the Northern room and are free
