RUC offensive

AN RUC charm offensive in South Belfast was thrown sharply into contrast by an attack on a 16 year old youth last Saturday.

The young man was beaten about the head and face with a torch at 10.30pm on the Eastbridge Road by a patrol led by an RUC man known locally as Yorkshire Bill.

Meanwhile Sinn Féin Councillor for the area Sean Hayes has been inundated with complaints from parents disgusted at an invitation from St Michael's Primary School on the Ravenhill Road to the RUC band.

He said: ``People from these communities have suffered for years at the hands of this paramilitary force and want to protect their children rather than have them exposed.''

``The brutality of the RUC on Saturday is in stark contrast to the veneer of respectability adopted during their unwanted visit to the school,'' he said.
