Felons club continually harassed
The members of the Felons club in West Belfast chose Sunday, the
day of their AGM, to stage a protest in front of Andersonstown
RUC barracks. Several hundred formed to denounce the ongoing
campaign of harassment by crown forces.
``13 members of our staff have been arrested and questioned. Last
week club treasurer Dickie Glenholmes was arrested from the club
and held all day for questioning. We intend changing this
situation and standing up for our rights'', said Liam Shannon,
chairperson of the Association.
``The RUC is an unacceptable force. At a time when the prisoners
are asked to play an active role in the peace process, the
Association which counts the largest number of ex-prisoners, is
being harassed like never before''.
``The RUC are deliberately trying to close the club down,'' said
Alex Maskey, SF Assembly candidate. ``In the tradition of
republicanism and for the sake of our prisoners and ex-prisoners,
we will never be forced to close this club.''
