Schoolboy battered
By Sean O'Tuama
A young nationalist schoolboy was attacked by two men as he
waited for a bus on the Antrim Road, Belfast, at 5.00pm on Monday
25 May.
The Ligoniel boy, who is a pupil at St Malachy's, was standing at
a bus-stop when one of the men dragged his blazer over his head
and pulled him to the ground where both men began kicking him.
Fortunately, passing motorists intervened to rescue the twelve
year old. However, the severity of his injuries will not be fully
known until the swelling to his head and body has subsided.
The boy's mother, Christine, branded the savage attack as ``purely
sectarian'' and added, ``they didn't even know my son's name but
attacked him for no other reason than the fact that he was
wearing a St Malachy's uniform.''
Local SF councillor, Gerard Brophy, appealed for Nationalists to
be vigilant and called on those involved in these attacks to
desist before someone is seriously injured or killed.
