State censorship
On Wednesday Spanish police broke into and closed EGIN, the
newspaper and radio station of the left wing Basque nationalist
movement. They arrested the 12 members of the paper's
Adminstration Counsel.
The most reactionary media commentators have been asking for this
step to be taken for years and Aznar, president of the Spanish
Goverment, only a few weeks ago announced in a public meeting
that ``every Herri Batasuna member will finish in jail''.
This is not the first time that the state has tried to silence
EGIN. This time the ``reason'' is the supposed financial and
structural links betwen EGIN and ETA.
