Paul Quinn wins transfer to Port Laoise

PAUL Quinn has come off his hunger strike after being transferred to Port Laoise Prison last Wednesday 18 February.

Quinn spent five days on the hunger strike in protest over his incarceration in Limerick jail and denial of political status.

He was sentenced several weeks ago to six months imprisonment for failing to give an account of his movements to Gardaí, a charge which he has denied.

Welcoming the decision to move him to Port Laoise, Sinn Féin representative in Limerick, Jenny Shapland said, ``It is thanks to those who protested outside the prison and to the efforts of those who highlighed his case that Paul has been moved to Port Laoise.''

Initial reports coming out of the prison suggest that Paul's health has improved considerably since the move.
