Helicopter goes down in S Armagh
The South Armagh Farmers and Residents Coalition has accused the
crown forces of covering up an incident near Crossmaglen when a
British army helicopter crash landed at the weekend.
Witnesses living on the Crivekeeran Road between Crossmaglen and
Culloville in South Armagh have told An Phoblacht that a low flying
British Army lynx helicopter crashed into overhead electricity cables
at 7.30 last Saturday morning.
The RUC moved into the Crivekeeran Road and sealed off the area from
7.30am until 4pm that afternoon. The RUC said that electricity
workers had been in the area making repairs and that a British Army
helicopter had been in difficulties in the vicinity. But they denied
there was any connection between the two events.
The British Army press office strongly denied the incident had taken
place, despite eyewitness reports and the admissions of the RUC.
Toni Carragher of SAFRC said the incident ``is the latest in a long
line of incidents that the crown forces have been responsible for and
which put the safety of residents at risk''.
